This policy sets out what Cairo Tourism Guide (www.cairotourism.org) collects when you read the site, why, and what you can do about it. It describes what the site actually does today, not a generic template — where something is planned rather than live, it says so.
Who runs this site
Cairo Tourism Guide is an independent travel publication. It is not affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Egyptian Tourism Authority, or any other government or commercial body. For any question about this policy, or to exercise a right described below, use the contact page.
What is collected when you read a page
You do not need an account to read anything here, and there is nothing to sign up for. Reading a page involves two kinds of data collection.
Server logs
The site is hosted by DreamHost, whose servers record standard web request data: IP address, the time of the request, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser’s user-agent string. This happens for every website you visit and is necessary to serve pages and to identify abuse. These logs are held by the host and are rotated on their schedule.
Google Analytics
The site runs Google Analytics 4, loaded through the Site Kit by Google plugin. It records which pages are read, roughly where in the world the reader is, how they arrived, and what kind of device they are using. It is used to work out which Cairo guides are useful and which need rewriting — nothing more. IP addresses are handled by Google Analytics 4, which does not log or store full IP addresses. No attempt is made here to identify individual readers, and analytics data is not sold, shared or combined with anything else.
Google’s own account of how it handles this data is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out across all sites with Google’s browser add-on.
Google Search Console
The site is verified in Google Search Console, which reports aggregated search queries that led here. This is anonymous and aggregated at Google’s end; no individual reader data reaches this site through it.
The contact form
If you write in through the contact page, the form collects the name, email address and message you type, plus the IP address the submission came from as a basic anti-spam measure. That is sent to the site’s own email address so it can be read and replied to.
Messages are kept for as long as they are useful — a correction is retained while the page it relates to is live, so there is a record of why a guide was changed. Correspondence is not added to any mailing list, and there is no mailing list to add it to. It is never sold or passed to a third party.
Comments
Comments are closed across the site and no comment data is collected. If that changes, this policy will be updated before comments reopen.
Cookies
Reading this site as a normal visitor sets analytics cookies from Google (typically _ga and a property-specific equivalent), used to tell a returning reader from a new one and to measure how long a session lasts.
WordPress and the page-caching layer set cookies only for people signed in to the site’s admin area, which is not something a reader does. No cookie here is used to build a profile of you, and none is shared with a data broker.
Every browser can block or delete cookies from its settings. Blocking them will not stop any part of this site working.
Advertising
No display advertising is served on this site, and no advertising cookies are set.
No third-party advertising vendor sets a cookie or any similar identifier on this site, and no advertising or measurement profile is built from what you read here.
Separately from display advertising, some links on this site earn a commission when you book through them. That arrangement is described in the next section.
Affiliate links and booking partners
We work with Stay22, a booking partner that handles the accommodation and activity links on this site. When you follow one of those links and make a booking, the provider pays us a small commission. The price you pay is the same either way, and it never affects what we recommend.
Stay22 runs a script on this site that rewrites booking links and identifies your device so a booking can be credited to us. It does this using characteristics of your browser and device rather than a cookie, and it stores an identifier in your browser’s local storage. It is treated as a marketing service here, so it does not load until you allow marketing in the cookie settings, and refusing does not limit what you can read.

Links to other sites
The guides link out heavily — to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the Central Bank of Egypt, Egypt’s e-visa portal, foreign office travel advice, and to hotels and operators that are named in the text. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else’s site under their privacy policy, and this one no longer applies. We do not control what they collect.
Legal basis, if you are in the UK or EU
Server logs are processed on the basis of legitimate interests: serving pages and keeping the site secure. Contact form data is processed on the basis of your consent, given by choosing to send the message, and to respond to your request. Analytics is processed on the basis of legitimate interests in understanding which guides are read.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, to receive a copy of it, and to withdraw consent. Readers in California additionally have the right to know what is collected and to opt out of any sale of personal information — no personal information is sold here, and none ever has been.
In practice the only personal data this site itself holds is whatever you sent through the contact form. Ask through that same form and it will be deleted. Analytics data sits with Google rather than here, so requests about it are best made to Google directly through the links above.
Children
This is a travel reference written for adults planning a trip. It is not directed at children under 13, and no data is knowingly collected from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, tell us and it will be removed.
Changes to this policy
This page is updated when what the site does changes. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
